So, you’re thinking about getting married in Italy – congratulations!! Planning an Italy wedding is such an exciting process (I know, because it’s what I did for my own wedding), but it can also feel a bit overwhelming. With so many amazing regions to choose from, how are you supposed to decide? As a destination wedding photographer, I’ve traveled to this beautiful country a handful of times, exploring all the best places to get married in Italy and today, I’m sharing 4 of the best Italy wedding locations as well as tips for each one to help you decide which region is right for you.
4 Best Italy Wedding Locations
Lake Como / The Lakes Region
With deep blue waters and alpine mountains rising in the background, its no surprise that Lake Como consistently ranks as one of the best Italy wedding locations! This region is known for its luxuriousness and is home to some of the finest villas in the country, not to mention world-renowned museums, stunning botanical gardens, and pristine lakes.
One of the things I especially love about weddings at Lake Como is that getting married here means you’ll not only get incredible views, but you’ll also have a unique opportunity to go on a boat ride on your wedding day. There are several tour companies around the lake that offer private wooden boat rides so you can explore the lake in style on your wedding day.
Best Time of Year to Plan a Lake Como Wedding
Lake Como is a popular destination and not just for weddings. If you are looking to avoid the crowds for your wedding in Italy, I suggest getting married in late spring or early autumn. These months still have great weather, but without the large crowds that typically visit during the summer months.

Tuscany
With its amazing wine and fresh, local cuisine, as well as incredible views of rolling hills, there are lots of things to love about Tuscany. Located in central Italy, this region is one of the most picturesque regions in the country. Tuscany also happens to be where I got married, so this area holds an extra special place in my heart!
Not only is this region beautiful, but it also happens to be one of the best wedding locations in Italy! Because the area is so large, there are lots of incredible Tuscany wedding venues designed to fit different budgets and guest sizes. Not to mention, most of the venues have on-site pools which are perfect for your day-after pool party!
As one of the best Italy wedding locations, Tuscany rarely disappoints, however, keep in mind that some villas can be very remote. This means you may need to arrange more transportation for your guests and possibly consider having an in-house chef to arrange meals for each day for your on-site guests.
*Pro Tip – if you like the vibe of Tuscany, you might also want to check out the nearby region of Umbria! Two of my favorite venues there are Rescio Estate and La Badia di Orvieto.
Best Time of Year to Plan a Wedding in Tuscany
The best months to plan a Tuscany wedding are late spring and early autumn. April – June and September – October will not only give you tons of natural beauty, but the area is still very lively and offers plenty of activities from wine tasting, museum hopping, and more!

Puglia
Known for sandy white beaches, charming villages, and historic archeological sites, Puglia is one of the fastest-growing wedding locations in Italy. With its natural beauty and near-perfect weather, it’s not hard to see why so many couples choose to get married here.
Though it is a new hotspot in Italy, this region is rich with history. Many of the weddings in Puglia take place at masserias. Masserias are estates that are exclusive to this region that have been transformed into luxury hotels. With their white-washed structures, olive groves, and white sand beaches, getting married in Puglia can almost feel like getting married on a mediterranean island in Greece.
One thing to keep in mind when choosing this area for your Italy wedding is that the weather in Puglia can get quite hot during summertime, so you’ll want to plan your wedding accordingly.
Best Time of Year to Plan a Wedding in Puglia
Speaking of weather, you have a lot of options to choose from when planning a wedding in Puglia. The only months I recommend possibly avoiding are July and August, as these are the hottest months. Any other time of year will give you comfortable weather for sightseeing, relaxing, or anything else you want to do during your wedding in Italy.

Amalfi Coast
With stunning ocean views set against picturesque villas dotting the hilly coastline, the Amalfi Coast is one of those regions you just have to experience for yourself! This area is incredibly beautiful, not to mention it also has some of the best food in the country!
Getting married on the Amalfi Coast means you will have lots of neighboring villages and islands to explore. Some of my personal recommendations are Ravello, Positano, Capri, and Ischia. Any one of these areas would make for a great place to honeymoon after your special day.
The downside of the Amalfi Coast is that it can be a bit difficult to navigate this area. Driving here is very difficult as most of the streets are narrow and hilly, so it’s best to hire a car or taxi as needed. Also, because this is a well-known tourist destination, the Amalfi Coast can be quite crowded, especially during peak season. But, the views here are unlike any other, making this one of the best Italy wedding locations!
*Pro Tip – If you like the vibe of the Amalfi Coast, you might also want to consider Sicily! One of my favorite venues in this region is Tonnara di Scopello.
Best Time of Year to Plan an Amalfi Coast Wedding
The best time of year for a sunny Amalfi Coast wedding is April – September. Of course, in order to avoid peak tourist season, you’ll want to choose the shoulder months and avoid mid-summer as those tend to be the busiest months in Italy.
